Retention and Safeguards

We hold data only as long as the purpose requires. Subscriber records end at unsubscribe; comments end at deletion; analytics follow the retention window of whichever provider is in use. Safeguards include access control and transport encryption. We cannot guarantee absolute security, and we do not claim to.

What We Collect

The data involved falls into two buckets. Passively collected: log and analytics information — IP address, device and browser — about the connection used to reach weekendgone.com, and the path taken through the site. Actively provided: an email address for the mailing list, comment details, or the contents of a message to us. Specific to weekend travel and getaways: we ask readers not to send us sensitive personal details, and we delete rather than retain anything of that kind that reaches us unprompted.

Exercising Your Rights

Your rights depend on your jurisdiction, but broadly: access, correction, erasure, portability, objection, and opt-out of sale or sharing for targeted advertising. The newsletter is confirmed opt-in: you enter an address, we email to check it was really you, and only then are you added. Every message we send carries a one-click unsubscribe and our postal address. Leaving is immediate and permanent.

How We Use It

Purposes are limited to running and improving weekendgone.com, measuring traffic in aggregate, delivering email that has been opted into, and supporting any advertising displayed on the site.
